On Monday, 04 November 2019 Cape Town will host an event that celebrates the level of industry innovation and showcases the wide variety of local products that are designed and manufactured using recycled plastics. The South African Plastics Recycling Organisation (SAPRO) Best Recycled Plastic Product Awards will take place at Workshop17 at the V&A Waterfront and acknowledges products that are made from recycled plastic materials, thereby encouraging brand owners, retailers and industrial designers to consider recycled plastics as a material of choice, promoting market acceptance of locally manufactured recycled plastic products, inspiring innovation and encouraging new entrants into the marketplace. The Polyolefin Responsibility Organisation (Polyco) is proud to be a Gold sponsor of the Awards, as an event like this supports the creation of new end-use markets for recycled pellets and increases the diversion of a valuable waste stream away from landfill.
“One of Polyco’s main organisational objectives, as the polyolefin plastic responsibility organisation, is to minimise the environmental impact of post-consumer polyolefins on the South African landscape,” says Mandy Naudé, Polyco CEO. Polyco invests in strengthening the full recycling value chain and ways to support recycling efforts in South Africa. “The Awards help us move towards this goal by raising awareness of the innovative end market applications and versatility of recycled plastic thus helping to stimulate and develop end-use market demand. By using recycled plastic material in products, a greater demand is created for more material to be collected and pelletised, creating a “pull-through” effect,” says Naudé.
SAPRO is an organisation that represents its committed plastic recycler members in having one voice on the value-chain strategy needed to grow plastic recycling in South Africa.
“As a cornerstone of the SAPRO strategy to grow demand for recycled plastic, the Awards are becoming even more prestigious and we believe that they are a catalyst to drive further awareness of the industry and to create a competitive environment for retailers, brand owners, convertors and recyclers to include ever more recycled plastics in their products. says SAPRO Chairman, Johann Conradie. “This is an important platform for organisations to demonstrate their commitment to the environment and resource efficiency as well as alignment with global initiatives that work towards a circular economy, creating more jobs and business growth”” he adds.
Along with Polyco as Gold Sponsors, the event is also supported by Relloy Erema as Silver Sponsors, PlasticsISA as Category Sponsors as well as Venue partner Workshop 17, the Ad Shop, Skyland Masterbatch & Polymers cc and the PET Plastics Recycling Company (PETCO).
