Become a funding partner.

Funding is a key pillar of Polyco’s support, made possible through the collaboration of dedicated individuals and strategic partners working together to drive impact and scale in the plastic recycling industry.
The funding project

Our funding models.

Polyco invests in three different project divisions to grow the collection and recycling of plastic packaging in South Africa.

Packa-Ching funding.

Requests for a static or mobile Packa-Ching unit will only be considered once a completed application form has been submitted, along with all the required supporting documents as specified in the form.

The proposed initiative must demonstrate how it will support infrastructure that enhances service delivery in underprivileged communities and rural areas where waste management challenges persist.

Impact of Education & Community Programmes (Applications are currently closed).

Primary Schools Recycling Initiative

Polyco’s Primary Schools Recycling Initiative focuses on driving change at a grassroots primary school level by inspiring and supporting environmental awareness among young learners. The programme encourages schools with active or emerging Eco Clubs to integrate recycling into their daily routines, creating a foundation for lifelong sustainable habits. Through this initiative, Polyco aims to nurture a culture of responsibility and empower teachers and learners to take the lead in building cleaner, greener communities.

Participating schools receive practical support including recycling bins, bulk bags, and downloadable educational materials. Polyco also provides guidance on areas where existing collectors or offtakes form part of its network, helping schools understand what options may be available nearby. However, schools are responsible for investigating and securing suitable recycling collectors or offtake partners within their own area to ensure that materials collected are properly managed and contribute to measurable recycling volumes.

To further strengthen participation, an activation campaign brings recycling to life through interactive education sessions, awareness shows, and classroom resources designed to make learning about recycling engaging and impactful.

Schools with existing Eco Clubs, or those interested in starting one led by an enthusiastic teacher or environmental ambassador, are encouraged to participate. Together, we can embed recycling practices at a grassroots level and cultivate a generation of environmentally conscious citizens.

Impact of infrastructure funding

Municipal focused strategy.

In 2018, Polyco embarked on a Municipal Focused Strategy that focuses funding efforts into a specific municipal area. In 2019, Polyco funded more than R5 million to private businesses in East London in the Buffalo City Municipality, to facilitate the collection and recycling of polyolefin packaging materials to meet local market demand for recyclate. Concurrently, five community-based static Packa-Ching buy-back centres, in conjunction with the Border-Kei Chamber of Business (BKCOB), Buffalo City Municipality (BCM) and the Buffalo City Metropolitan Development Agency (BCMDA) have been constructed to service the recycling needs of the public and create a cleaner city. We look forward to working with other provinces and rolling out more municipal static sites as we have done in the Eastern Cape. These initiatives are supported by a marketing campaign to educate the public about recycling and encouraging them to use the buy-back centres to earn money for their recyclables and create a cleaner city.
