CRDC Global
+ A disruptive building materials company creating value from plastic waste.
About
CRDC SA was incorporated in 2019, they are a centre for regenerative design and collaboration, which was developed and patented in with a unique process which allows taking all kinds of unrecyclable plastic waste and convert into an echo aggregate for the construction industry. They accept mixed plastic waste and convert it into an aggregate modifier for the construction industry – Resin8. Resin8 is made using mixed plastic waste and all 7 resin types can be used, creating a solution for difficult to recycle material. The plastic feedstock material is material that would have ended at landfills due to contamination or it being low value. At their core CRDC is focused on its Regenerative design. Thus they, accept all types of plastics Resins grade 1 right through to grade 7, these can be mixed, dirty, soiled and degraded. Thus, taking significant volumes of plastic waste that is ordinarily destined for landfills, environs such as the ocean, and rivers, then deploy this plastic waste into the building environment where it is permanently sequestered and taken out from the environment forever.
Through the funding of Polyco, they have been able to scale up production output to 610 tons of non-recyclable plastic waste per month. They look forward into the latter being a benchmark in collaboration across the country. Their goal is to role out plants in all major metropolitan areas, around South Africa. Their operations are in both Costa Rica and New York, their plant in Cape Town will be their first plant in Soth Africa.
Their mission is through collaboration to help their concrete partners build concrete products that are lighter, with better thermal insulation properties, and much lower carbon footprint, while assisting waste management partners take their clients zero plastic waste to landfill.
